Manual Entry vs. System-Driven Disaggregation

Learn how to manage planning data in SAP Analytics Cloud using manual entry for full control or system-driven disaggregation to automatically spread values across details.

Disaggregation in SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC) refers to how values entered at a higher level in your data model—such as totals or parent members—are automatically broken down and applied to lower-level (leaf) members. It enables top-down planning by letting you enter a single value and have SAC spread it to the relevant details underneath.

What’s the Difference?

Approach Manual Entry System-Driven
How it works
You input values directly at a detailed (leaf) level
You enter values at a parent or aggregated level and let SAC split them
User control
Full control over each individual value
Controlled by SAC logic or planning panel settings
Use case
You know the exact values to enter
You’re estimating or setting a total that needs to be broken down

Manual Entry

Manual entry means entering values directly into leaf members in a planning table.

  • You choose exactly what goes where
  • Ideal for precise, bottom-up planning
  • Used when specific input is required for each product, cost center, or region

Example

  • You type in 200 for Product A, 300 for Product B, and 500 for Product C. These values are not derived—they’re intentional.

Tip

  • Use manual entry when you’re working with highly granular input or when you want to override automated logic.

System-Driven Disaggregation

System-driven disaggregation kicks in when you enter data at a parent level, and SAC automatically determines how to spread it across child (leaf) members. SAC uses rules and historical data (if available) to guide the split.

  • Equal: Distributes evenly across children
  • Proportional: Uses existing values to define the ratio
  • Weighted/Input: Set in the Planning Panel
  • Blocked: If disaggregation is prevented by locks or validation rules
Use Manual Entry When… Use System-Driven Entry when…
You want full control over each value
You’re doing top-down planning and want to save time
You’re entering data for bottom-up reporting
You’re forecasting at a summary level
Precise data input is required (e.g., from departments)
You’re modeling what-if scenarios or allocating targets
