Creating a New Private Version
Private versions are used to test changes before sharing them with others. You typically create a private version by copying an existing public version.
To create a private version:
1
Open your story and click inside a table connected to a planning model
2
Open the Version Management Panel from the top toolbar
3
Hover over the public version you want to copy (e.g., Forecast, Budget, Actual)
4
Click the three-dot menu (⋮) and select Copy
5
Enter a meaningful name for your private version (see naming tips below)
6
Choose whether to include all data or just specific members
7
Click OK to create your version
Your private version will now appear under the “Private Versions” section in the panel.
Copying Versions for Scenario Planning
Copying a version allows you to build out multiple planning paths—like optimistic, pessimistic, or adjusted forecasts—without overwriting your team’s work.
Common use cases:
- Copy the current forecast to model a best-case or worst-case outcome
- Duplicate last quarter’s budget to use as a starting point for the next
- Create individual working versions for team members before consolidating
Tips for Naming Versions
Good naming conventions help keep your versions organized—especially when collaborating with others or juggling multiple forecasts.
Best practices:
- Be clear and specific (e.g., “Q3 Forecast – 10% Growth”)
- Use dates or cycles (e.g., “2025 Budget Draft”, “Oct Forecast Rev1”)
- If personal, include your initials (e.g., “Forecast – KChen Draft”)
- Avoid generic names like “Copy of Forecast” or “New Version”
Tips
- Use the version name to communicate the purpose or assumption behind the version.
