Introduction
In SAP Analytics Cloud, you can use links to jump to another story page, another story, an external resource, or a specific location.
You can add a hyperlink in the following places in a chart widget: the chart title, the chart footer, and on the chart datapoints. However, all the other widgets (including tables) can have only one hyperlink per widget.
Procedure:
1
Select the widget that you want to link from. You have the following Options for some of the widgets:
• Image
• Pictogram
• Text
• Chart Title
• Chart Data Point
For the above widgets, click on the widget and select the ellipses (3 dots) -> Add – Hyperlink.
You can also Right-click within the tile (or on a chart data point) and then select -> Add -> Hyperlink.
2
Select a table or a table cell. Select the ellipses (3 dots) -> Add -> Hyperlink.
You can also Right-click within the tile (or on a chart data point) and then select -> Add -> Hyperlink.
3
In the Hyperlink panel, under Link to, you have 5 options:
• None
• Mobile App URL
• External URL
• Page
• Story
Let us go through each of the options:
- None: This is the default option.
- Mobile App URL: This allows you to link to a specific location inside a native app. When you enter a mobile app URL, you have the following optional configurations:
- Under Mobile App URL, select one or more dimensions from the list that appears, to insert the dimensions into the URL. The dimension will be used as a filter on the destination.
If you want to pass an ID instead of a description, select a dimension and then select one of the options: Description, ID, or ID and Description.
Under Label, enter a label for the URL, or from the list, select a dimension to use as a label. The label will be displayed instead of the full URL.
You can also choose whether you would like to encode dimension values by selecting or deselecting the Escape special characters in dimension values check box. If this check box is selected, dimension values will be encoded.
External URL: When you enter an external URL, you have the following configurations:
• Under External URL, select one or more dimensions from the list that appears, to insert the dimensions into the URL.
If you want to pass an ID instead of a description, select a dimension and then select one of the options: Description, ID, or ID and Description.
Under Label, enter a label for the URL, or from the list, select a dimension to use as a label. The label will be displayed instead of the full URL.
If you want the destination page or URL to open in a new browser tab, select the Open in New Tab check box. You can also choose whether you would like to encode dimension values by selecting or deselecting the Escape special characters in dimension values check box. If this check box is selected, dimension values will be encoded.
Page: Select a page to link to:
• First Page
• Next Page
• Previous Page
• Last Page
• Specific Page
Select Apply selected dimension as a filter, to use selected dimensions as a temporary filter on the destination page. Select Cascading Effect, to enable changes you make to the filter to affect all related filters in the same page.
Story: Click on Add Story, select a story from the list and then select a page in the story to link to. If you want the destination page or URL to open in a new browser tab, select the Open in New Tab check box.
Note
- If the link destination is another page in the same story, the application will switch to the destination page within the same browser window when the hyperlink is followed.
Select Apply selected dimension as a filter, to use selected dimensions as a temporary story filter in the destination story. To return to the hyperlink’s source page and remove the temporary story filter, select the filter and then select Go Back to Previous Page.
Note
- The Apply selected dimension as a filter option only works when the source and destination stories use the same model.
Select Cascading Effect, to enable changes you make to the filter to affect all related filters in the same story.
Note
- For the Mobile App URL and External URL options, not all chart types support using dimensions in hyperlinks.

Click Done.
Results
The hyperlink is added to the widget or table. To follow the hyperlink, do one of the following:
- For Image, pictogram, or text: Select the widget that contains the hyperlink and from your keyboard, select Ctrl + Click or Cmd + Click. The destination page or URL opens.
- For Charts: For a hyperlink to an external URL, select one data point (for example, one bar in a bar chart) and then select the hyperlink. The dimensions represented by that data point are passed to the destination web page.
- For Tables: There are different ways to get to the hyperlink:
- Right-click a measure data point and then select Go to Link.
- Select a data point and then select the link in the title area.
From the drop down, either select the link again or switch between showing and hiding the hyperlinks in the table. When the hyperlinks are showing in the table, you can select them instead of selecting the link in the title.
