In SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC), versioning gives you the flexibility to explore different planning scenarios without affecting the core dataset. Two version types—Public and Private—allow users to collaborate while keeping data safe, test ideas before sharing, and manage planning workflows more efficiently.Â
What is a Public Version?
A Public Version is shared across your team and saved directly in the planning model. It’s commonly used for finalized plans or versions that multiple team members need to access.Â
Key characteristics:
- All data is stored in the model. Public data is visible in the modelÂ
- Visible to anyone with access permissionsÂ
- Used for live planning, forecasting, and reportingÂ
- Changes must be published to become visible to othersÂ
Example
- Your team uses a public version called “2025 Forecast” to track updates across departments.
What is a Private Version?
A Private Version is a personal working copy of a public version. It’s useful when you want to test new assumptions, simulate scenarios, or work through changes without impacting the shared version.Â
Key characteristics:
- Only visible to the user who created itÂ
- Not saved in the model until publishedÂ
- Ideal for “what-if” planning or draft workÂ
- Safe for trying out different inputs before sharingÂ
Example
- You make a private version of “2025 Forecast” to test how a 10% sales drop might affect overall revenue.
Switching Between Versions
To work with versions in SAC:Â
- Open a story connected to a planning model.Â
- Click inside a planning-enabled table.Â
- Use the Version Management Panel to view available versions.Â
- Select a version to edit or copy it to create a private version.Â
