In SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC), unbooked data refers to dimension combinations that exist in your planning model but don’t yet contain values. When planning in tables, it’s important to understand how unbooked cells behave—especially when entering data, using disaggregation, or copying values between time periods.

What Is Unbooked Data?

In SAC, every cell in a planning-enabled table corresponds to a combination of dimension members (like Account, Time, Region, etc.).

  • If a value has already been entered or imported, the cell is booked.
  • If a cell exists in the model but hasn’t been filled in yet, it’s shown as unbooked (displayed as a dash –).
  • If the combination doesn’t exist at all (e.g., filtered out or invalid), the cell will be greyed out and uneditable.

Note

  • Unbooked data cells are still editable—you can enter a value, and SAC will create the necessary record in the background.

Identifying Unbooked Cells

Unbooked cells:

  • Are displayed with a dash (–) instead of a number
  • Can appear at both parent and leaf levels
  • May require disaggregation logic when entered at a parent level

Note

  • Use the “Show Unbooked Data” option in the Builder panel to view unbooked rows/columns in your planning tables.

Entering Data in Unbooked Cells

When you enter data into an unbooked cell at the leaf level, SAC simply books that value.

When you enter data into an unbooked parent cell, SAC will disaggregate that value across the underlying child members using one of the following:

  • Even distribution
  • Proportional distribution (if data exists)
  • Driver-based distribution (via the Planning Panel)

Note

  • You can check how values are distributed using the Disaggregation Panel in the Planning Panel tools.

Data Locks and Unbooked Cells

If any child members of a parent node are locked, you may not be able to book data to the unbooked parent—even if it appears editable.

Use the option Show/Hide → Reason for Unplannable Data to identify why a cell is greyed out.

Cell Status

Term Meaning
Booked Cell
Has a saved value (e.g., actuals or entered planning data)
Unbooked Cell
Exists in the model but has no value yet (shown as a dash –)
Greyed Out
Cell is not plannable due to filters, locks, or invalid combinations
