Data Analyzer in SAP Analytics Cloud is built for quick, flexible, table-based exploration. Unlike full stories, insights are lightweight objects designed for fast analysis and reuse. This article explains what an insight is, and how to design one from scratch.
What Is an Insight?
An insight is a saved table view created in Data Analyzer. It contains the table structure, applied filters, formatting, and prompts. Insights are stored as standalone files and can be reused or shared without creating a full story.
Steps to Design an Insight
Launch the Data Analyzer
1
From the Home screen, select Data Analyzer from the menu.
Select a Data Source
2
Choose from available data sources such as SAC models, SAP BW queries, HANA views, or Datasphere models. You must have read access to the selected model.
Apply Variable Prompts (If Required)
3
If the model includes input prompts, you’ll be asked to enter values before continuing.
Configure the Table Using the Builder Panel
4
- Drag and drop dimensions and measures into rows and columns.
- Use filters to narrow down the dataset.
- Adjust hierarchies or drill paths if needed.
Refine the View with the Styling Panel
5
- Format number types (currency, percentages).
- Enable or disable totals and subtotals.
- Apply compact display mode if preferred.
Save the Insight
6
Click the Save icon.
Name your insight and choose a folder location.
Saved insights use the insight file type and can be reopened or shared later.
