Once you’ve connected to a data source and built your initial table layout in Data Analyzer, the next step is to explore and interact with the data. This article outlines how to navigate your table efficiently and apply common interactions such as drilling, filtering, sorting, and expanding hierarchies.
Key Navigation Tools
Data Analyzer tables are fully interactive. Users can explore data on the fly without needing to rebuild views or refresh the page.
1. Drilling Down and Up
- Hierarchies: If your model includes hierarchies (e.g., region → country → city), you can drill down by clicking on the arrow next to a dimension member.
- Context Menu: Right-click a member to access options like Drill Down, Drill Up, or Keep Filter.
Tip: Hierarchies must be defined in the data source (SAC model, BW query, etc.) for this option to appear.
2. Expanding and Collapsing Rows
- Use the arrows beside dimension members to expand or collapse lower-level members.
- This feature is useful for navigating across different granularity levels without losing your table layout.
3. Sorting
- Click the column header of any dimension or measure to sort data in ascending or descending order.
- Sorting is done locally within the table—underlying data remains unchanged.
4. Filtering Values
- Inline Filtering: Hover over a cell and click the filter icon to include or exclude values.
- Builder Panel Filters: Use the panel to apply filters to any dimension or measure across the table.
Note: You can apply multiple filters simultaneously to narrow your focus.
5. Swapping Rows and Columns
- Use the Swap Axes button in the Builder Panel to change the orientation of your table.
- This is helpful when analyzing wide tables or pivoting dimensions and measures.
6. Navigating Large Tables
- Scroll both vertically and horizontally for large datasets.
- Totals and headers stay fixed during scroll (if configured in Styling Panel).
- Use the compact display mode to fit more data onscreen.
Additional Table Behaviors
- Zero Suppression: Automatically hides rows or columns with zero or null values (toggle in Styling Panel).
- Keep/Remove Filter: Right-click any value to isolate or exclude it from your view.
- Refresh Data: Tables update automatically when filters or selections change—no manual refresh required.
